Summer 2006 - I'm with the band newsletter

This newsletter contains the official newsletters for Arch Enemy, Cannibal Corpse, Exodus, Fuelblooded, Soilwork, Nevermore, Hypocrisy and Napalm Death combined into one mailing. You are receiving this newsletter because you subscribed to one of these newsletters in the past. Since we work with a double opt-in system, nobody else is able to add or remove your e-mail address but you. You can subscribe or unsubscribe at any of the websites or at www.imwitheband.com.

Yes, this is the all-in-one summer newsletter. I hope you have been enjoying your summer and you have survived all the festival madness. Personally I have enjoyed the Appelsap festival in Amsterdam (hip hop & soul) and the Pure Jazz Festival in The Hague, but if neither genre is your thing, plenty of metal has been going around this summer as well. Combined with the intense weather (roasting in July, drowning in August), this has truly been a very heavy metal summer!

So after all the festivals and the dazzling heat (airco is my friend), what's up next? What have the bands been up to and what are they planning? It can all be summed up into one word: TOURING! Go start saving your pennies! because you will want to go check out all these shows and get the shirt!

There are many reasons to like France, and there are an equal amount of reasons not to like France. Regardless, this months featured photographer resides in Paris, trading the porto of his native Portugal for the French wine. Introducing Laurent Gameiro. ARCH ENEMY

The undisputed kings and queen of touring, they are Arch Enemy. The band have just completed their insane European summer festivals season with over 12 festival appearances (including Download, Wacken Open Air, Graspop, Tuska Metal Festival and Gothenburg City Fest) and a headlining slot at the 'Kerrang! Day Of Rock’ show in London. So what could be next?

A. Relaxing and chilling at home
B. Releasing their first ever DVD
C. Touring the USA with Gigantour
D. Touring Australia with Gigantour
E. All of the above

Live Apocalypse
ARCH ENEMY's highly anticipated double disc DVD set, "Live Apocalypse", is now available worldwide just in time for the group's triumphant return to the U.S. on Gigantour this September. A new e-card is available that features two videos taken from the DVD for the tracks "Ravenous" and "My Apocalypse", along with a new photo gallery.

Some early reports from European DVD charts:

German DVD-charts:
Week N°1: #12

Swedish DVD-charts:
Week N°1: #2
Week N°2: #2

Michael Amott comments:

'Yes, the DVD is out all over the world now and the reviews are glowing and more importantly, the positive feedback from the fans is HUGE!’

‘On another note, we played our last summer festival show this year in Gothenburg on Tuesday, really cool show with a great Swedish Metal crowd and tons of family and friends backstage – a great way to end this summer!’

‘We played a completely different kind of show in London, UK on Thursday, it was the ‘Kerrang! Day Of Rock’ and it was basically an in-store type deal in the basement of the Virgin Megastore on Oxford Street… We played a brief 30 minute set and thanks to the fans that came down and supported us it was actually fun!’

‘We’ve had a blast this summer playing the European festivals, the shows have been so cool and in some cases even AMAZING (Hello Wacken!). It’s been a real treat to meet all the Arch Enemy fans at the signing sessions of these festivals too – we love it!’

‘So now we have a little time off from the road before we head back to the U.S. for the Gigantour – we are all really looking forward to that tour…’

Check out what Metalreview.com have to say about the ‘Live Apocalypse’:

"The bottom line is any and all metal bands looking to release a DVD should take note of Live Apocalypse as well as the DVD’s I mentioned above. This is a great package put together with the help of Century Media and it has definitely helped pique my interest in this band again. Kudos to Arch Enemy for releasing one of the better metal DVD’s I’ve had the privilege of getting my hands on."

Had enough Arch Enemy yet? If you are over in North America and you are feeling a tad bit left out because of all the summer festivals in Europe that you could not attend, fear not, because the band are crossing the Atlantic again to bring you more Arch Enemy Massive Metal Mayhem (I know, I am so creative) as part of the Gigantour. Which features as additional bonus the brilliant Megadeth. I know I would go! Also, this will be your last chance to see them on US soil for awhile, after this you will have to still your cravings with the DVD (out now, to be ordered on-line btw)

ARCH ENEMY will be making their triumphant return to the U.S. this September as part of the mighty Gigantour, which features the legendary MEGADETH, genre titans such as LAMB OF GOD, OPETH and Century Media labelmates INTO ETERNITY, among others. The month-long trek will be the group's fourth and final U.S. run in support of their highly acclaimed album "Doomsday Machine", which debuted at No. 87 on The Billboard 200 chart. Additionally, on August 8, ARCH ENEMY will release their first DVD, "Live Apocalypse", a stunning double-disc set full of phenomenal live footage, in-depth interviews and promotional video clips.

Commented guitarist Michael Amott: "We are ecstatic about returning to the U.S. for yet another cool tour after two months of European festivals this summer. It's an honor for us to be a part of Gigantour this year and to share the stage with metal legends MEGADETH! We are also looking forward to hanging out with our Swedish friends in OPETH and making lots of new friends along the way. This will most likely be the last time the U.S. fans will see us on tour for the 'Doomsday Machine' album, and we are more than ready to deliver a full-on metal assault, ARCH ENEMY style! Let the 'Symphony of Destruction' begin."

It's been long overdue, but introducing Fredrik Akersson. Michael took the time to have a Q&A with his not-so-new partner in crime.

© MASA NODA

  1. Hello Fredrik, are you enjoying the Arch Enemy experience!?
Yes I am! It's been almost a year now and this kicks ass!
  2. How did you get the gig? Where you surprised?
Mike called last summer when A/E toured ozzfest. and yes a was a bit surprised Mike had watched the KRUX DVD that I play on and he knew me a bit since before.
  3. How long did it take for you to learn the Arch Enemy live set?
I had about 3 weeks before the first show to get it down. and that's about it basically.
  4. Were you a fan of Arch Enemy before you joined?
I had listened to 'Wages of Sin' which I liked a lot, but the other records I had not heard.
  5. Are the band members giving you a hard time because you are 'the new guy'?
They have been quite nice apart from the daily abuse and slavery.
  6. Tell us about your musical influences...
I started listening to Kiss, Maiden, Accept, Judas Priest, Ozzy. When I started to play guitar I got into players like Michael Schenker, Yngwie, Uli Roth, Blackmore.
  7. What's your current equipment set-up on the road with Arch Enemy (guitars, amps, effects)?
I use a ESP 'Eclipse' and a Les Paul custom, both with EMG 81,85 pickups. Krank amps/cabs (Krankenstein heads). My pedals are Boss-DD6 digital delay, Morley 'Bad Horsie' wah, Ibanez analog chorus, ISP noise supressor, Boss TU-2 tuner. D'Addario strings and Dunlop 1,5 gator pick's.
  8. What was the coolest show you've played with the band so far? And the worst?
It's really hard to pick a favorite show because there been so many great ones but to name one Mexico City. There has not been any worst show yet.
  9. What's your impression of the Arch Enemy fans around the world?
The are fucking great and that goes for the whole world.
  10. What's your favourite Arch Enemy album?
    'Anthems Of Rebellion'.
  11. You must be looking forward to playing on the next Arch Enemy album in 2007?
Yes! It's gonna be very interesting and I hope I can contribute with some riffs and ideas.

Meanwhile...on Gigantour
Wondering what's been going on? Angela keeps us up-to-date:

Hey,

Just checking in quickly from the Gigantour. Its all going great, Dave Mustaine greeted everybody in person the first day – a wonderful gesture which certainly sets the tone for this tour: Nice people, relaxed and friendly backstage atmosphere + KICK ASS METAL! It’s a brilliant line-up and well worth getting your lazy butt off the couch! So get moving and bang that head that doesn’t bang!

We are doing the FYE signings at every show, so be sure not to miss this opportunity to get your stuff signed! See you there!

Love,
Angela

One Week into Gigantour, Las Vegas and Backstage Impressions..

Yeah, so we made it one week into Gigantour and things are finally going smoothly with set-changes, playing tight and finding the right places for working out.

Yesterday we hit Las Vegas. It felt weird walking thru all these hollowed eyed zombies at the slot machines and right into a metal show. Quite the opposite vibes. It was our first show we actually played well. And the crowd was great too. Loved to play a smaller venue, it kinda feels more metal.

This tour is great. I hear plenty of solos, 8 minute-songs, screaming, the occasional Rob Halford wail (Stu from Into Eternity got that one down pretty well) and all-time thrash metal classics. Holy Wars! The absence of hardcore-shouting-breakdowns is very refreshing. In fact, I could do without Get in the moshpit and get fucked up for the rest of my life.

Dave Mustaine carried our passed-out Fredrik onto the tourbus after the Margarita party in San Bernardino. At 3 am in the morning.. The other day, he asked me if we need anything, if we are happy, if there is anything he could do for us. Holy shit! We are having a backstage room with shower everyday. We get catering everyday. No stage-manager has screamed at us yet for running over 20 seconds. Everybody is nice and treats us well. WHAT ELSE COULD WE NEED???

We are in Heavy Metal heaven.

34=) SeraphineLeadGuitar: what is hands down the most embarrising Stage moment ever,

47=) OUTRETOMBE: Many fans and musiscian would official fingering chart, do you make one day a book with them ?
MichaelAmott: there was a tab book published in Japan a few years ago we r lookin into making new one and making avail worlwide

NAPALM DEATH

Jesse Pintado (1969 - 2006)
On August 27, 2006, Jesse Pintado passed away in Amsterdam. The band are shocked and saddened by the sudden death of their friend. Jesse Pintado was a member of NAPALM DEATH from 1989-2004.
» Official Terrorizer MySpace

“I am sitting here still really trying to take in what has happened with Jesse. We were in Bulgaria playing at the time when it seems to have happened, and communications were a little off our radar.

I don’t really want to dissect things too much because I’m conscious of how Jesse’s family must be feeling right now – simply to say that I’m sad and also disappointed that Jesse wasn’t able to fully lift himself again and re-discover his hunger with Terrorizer. RIP amigo.”

Mark ‘Barney’ Greenway, Napalm Death.

"I am very sad and upset about this news. Jesse was like a brother to me and we were very close for many years. For now, I feel the most sadness and compassion for his family, that loved him dearly, and tried with all their heart to help Jesse redirect his future.

I suppose I feel more anger and frustration than anything, as Jesse was gifted with people who loved and cared about him. Jesse was equally blessed with many companions around the world, and I am sure that many people share the same emptiness at this moment.

Now all that I can do is to try and remember the great times we shared together, and hope that Jesse has somehow found peace in his own mind and soul.

Thanks ever so much for all of your kind words and concerns."

#99
He might not have won world's sexiest vegetarian, but Barney holds no grudge against PETA. In fact, he recently joined forces with them for a campaign against vivisection.

Not many bands can say that they hold a world’s record, but Napalm Death isn’t your typical band—they play to win. Their song “You Suffer” earned a spot in the Guinness World Records for being the shortest recorded song ever, at a blazing 1.316 seconds. Although this is a great feat in itself, this metaliscious outfit isn’t most well-known for their record-setting abilities—they are widely recognized as the founders of the grindcore revolution.

Napalm Death has greatly influenced the metal scene with their fast and furious mix of thrash metal and hardcore. Now they are influencing people to take a stand against animal testing with their new peta2 ad to save #99. In the ad, vocalist and longtime vegetarian Mark “Barney” Greenway makes a strong statement: “Vivisection is one of the ultimate acts of disrespect.” Check the ad out for yourself!

Feeling inspired to do something such as Napalm Death did to help save monkeys like #99? You could dress up in a monkey costume and refuse to take it off until animal testing is illegal—or you could take the easier, more direct approach by clicking on the button below to send a message to government officials asking them to ban primate experimentation. But if you do end up dressing up like a monkey, be sure to send us pictures.

A little on the side
So you know Barney is a vivid supporter of animal rights and women's rights. That's probably why he appears on the upcoming Aborted album 'Slaughter & Apparatus: A Methodical Overture'. Jeff Walker also makes a guest appearance btw.

While on the subject of collaboration, Shane did some moonlighting himself: first up, he will be featured on the forthcoming Mnemic album, where he will be making a guest appearance along with our favourite fluffer Jeff Walker. Secondly, look for the new ANAAL NATHRAKH entitled Eschaton for more of Shane (and none of Jeff).

More on the side
Wait, there's more! Shane recently launched his own label along with Mick Kenney (ANAAL NATHRAKH): FETO RECORDS. The first two releases will be Lock Up's "Live in Japan" (featuring Jesse Pintado) and the first EXPLODER release.

Well after too many years of personal debate over wether I (shane that is) should start a record label,me and my close friend Mick Kenney (Anaal Nathrakh/Mistress) have gone and done it.FETO Records is finally born and the first 2 releases will be a live album from my other band LOCK UP( which was only previously available in japan) and the debut album from the band EXPLODER which is a more mainstream metal Band also from mick kenney.Look out for further releases from MISTRESS,VENOMOUS CONCEPT,NAPALM DEATH/NASUM LIVE SPLIT.Enitially its a springboard for our other bands, though eventually we will be releaseing other stuff too, will keep you posted ..I am pretty excited.

CANNIBAL CORPSE

Nobody knows touring like Cannibal Corpse do. Just barely getting home from the very successful Sounds of the Underground tour, the band are getting ready for the October Australia dates and their US headlining tour together with Dying Fetus, Necrophagist, Unmerciful. That is right, Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus, Necrophagist and Unmerciful all on one bill spells out DEATH METAL TOUR OF THE YEAR. This is one tour you don't want to miss!

First things first. This summer Cannibal Corpse took part in the succesful Sounds of the Underground, along with In Flames, Trivium, GWAR and As I Lay Dying. The band got excellent responses and Alex reports midway Sounds of the Underground:

Greetings everyone, Alex from Cannibal here. We are currently on tour with the Sounds of the Underground tour, and everything is going very well. We've had great responses from the audiences at the shows we've done so far, and the tour crew and the other bands have been totally cool.

If you're planning on checking us out at Sounds of the Underground, be sure to get there early, because we've been playing as early as 5:30 in the afternoon (the schedule is slightly different everyday). Also remember to check our merch booth and the Jagermeister booth, as we will be doing meet and greets at one or the other (sometimes both) on many of the tour dates.

OK, we want to say a big thank you to everybody who's come out to the Sounds of the Underground tour so far, and we hope to see the rest of you soon!

...and looks back:

We have just returned from the Sounds of the Underground tour, and we feel it was a great success. We would like to thank the entire crew on SOTU for doing a great job and for keeping things running smoothly throughout the tour. We also want to say hello and thanks to all of the great bands we shared the stage with during the tour. Much thanks also goes out to our friends at Jagermeister Music for the great BBQ and for the meet and greets they hosted throughout the tour. Most importantly, we'd like to thank the fans who attended. The entire tour was one great audience after another, and we really appreciate that!

Our immediate future plans are a tour in Australia in October, followed by a headlining tour of the USA in November and December. The other bands on the US tour will be: Dying Fetus, Necrophagist, and Unmerciful. We should have dates posted shortly.

We would again like to thank everybody who came out to see us play this summer, and we hope to see the rest of you as the "Death Walking Tour" continues!

Alex takes the time to answer our Q&A

  1. First up, how has the SOTU tour been for you?
Answer: The Sounds of the Underground tour went very well for us. We played with a lot of bands that we haven't toured with before, and I think that that helped expose us to a somewhat different audience. Of course, plenty of our die-hard fans were at the shows too, and they really helped to get some incredible pits going.

  2. Have you gotten any negative feedback?
Answer: Not really. I think all of the bands were pretty happy with the response they received from the audiences this summer. The fans at Sounds of the Underground really seemed to be open-minded and receptive to a wide variety of metal and hardcore.

  3. So you are taking a break now but next up is your USA headlining tour. You managed to get an amazing deathmetal bill. You must be looking forward to that tour?
Answer: Yeah, touring with Necrophagist, Unmerciful and Dying fetus will be an awesome death metal package. We are fans of all three bands, so we'll be enjoying the shows just as much as the fans will.

  4. You are coming back to Europe in Febuary for an extensive tour. Will you be hitting any countries and places you haven't toured for while?
Answer: The European tour will take us to places we haven't been to before, like Bulgaria and Romania, as well as places we haven't been in a few years like Portugal and Spain.

  5. Kill has been out for half a year now, how has the response been so
far? People really seem to love it. Answer: So far, most of our fans really seem to like it. Also, a lot of people that might not have liked us before are starting to give us some respect for our efforts on this album, which is pretty cool. Of course, there's always going to be a few people that don't like each album we do, but overall the response has been very positive.

  6. Who comes up with the concepts for your videos?
Answer: Our director Dan Dobi is the man behind the concepts for the videos. We might give him a rough idea of what we'd like to see, but really 99% of what you see is Dan's creative genius at work. He kicks ass, we're really happy with the work he's done for us so far (Dan did the videos for both "Make Them Suffer" and "Death Walking Terror"), and we hope to use him again in the future.

  7. What's the update on your sideprojects?
Answer: George will be recording another album with Paths of Possession in early 2007, once again with Erik Rutan at Mana Studios. The Blotted Science project that I've been working on with Ron Jarzombek should be ready for release sometime in the first half of 2007.

  8. What have you been listening to yourself lately?
Answer: I really like Internal Suffering's new album "Awakening of the Rebel", and I've also been listening to the new McGill, Manring, Stevens album "What We Do" quite a lot.

  9. What's the best martial arts movie of all time?
    Answer: Easy, "Enter the Dragon".

  10. Which would you rather read: GQ / Maxim / Playboy?
Answer: Of those three, Maxim is definitely the one I pick up the most at the newsstand.

  11. Describe your favorite pizza.
Answer: Pepperoni Pizza from Tony's in Akron, New York, all the way! But any good local Pizzeria in Buffalo, New York can make a pie that I'll like. It sucks, because even the best pizza down in Florida doesn't come close to an average Buffalo pizza.

Ask the Cannibals
Want more Cannibal Corpse? Drop by our official forum at www.cannibalcorpse.org. Have a dire question that needs answering? Why don't you go and ask the source? At the Ask the Cannibals forum, Alex, Pat and George answer your questions. Some examples:

  1. Has Corpse ever recorded songs that they never put on their albums?
There's only one original song that we've recorded that hasn't been released, as far as I can remember. We recorded it for "TWS". We'll probably put that one out sometime in the future, but I don't know when.

  2. just curious, how is the Blotted science project going , I recently found out that Charlie Zeleny is playing drums for you guys now, what do you think of behold the arctopus's music , and is the writing process with charlie any different than it was with roddy or adler?they all come from very different backgrounds in music , I figure that would affect the overal sound of the project, or are all the drum parts pre-written.. I can't wait to see you guys later this year and hear the final result of blotted science... its killing me!!also if you have time do yuo mind giving me your opinion on ome of the music I do on my spare time.. I woudl reallly appreciate it, but if you dont have the time it's cool
Yeah, Charlie's going to be doing some drumming on the Blotted Science album (I'm not sure if he's doing the whole thing, or just a few songs). I've heard rough tracks of him playing one of the songs, and it sounded excellent, he's really technical, but he also beats the hell out of his drums, which I like to hear. The BTA stuff is really cool, I've got a copy of a CD they did, and I like it a lot. It's really original stuff, very cool.

As for the writing of the drum parts for Blotted Science, well, Ron did some really good drum programming, and most likely the drummer(s) will just follow that as a basic guide, and add a bit of their own style as well. The drummers we've tried out and worked with are all quite different, and it would take a long time to go into their individual styles...

Anyway, if we can get the drums nailed down sometime this year, we'll be able to release the album early next year. I'll keep you all posted.

  3. Hey Alex, I was wondering. On the 15 Year box set, at the first show you guys played a song entitled Enter At Your Own Risk. I was confused about it, because I noticed it's not on any of the CDs.
That was a song we had that we didn't think was good enough to make it onto Eaten Back To Life. We had another song called "Escape The Torment" which also didn't make the cut. We stopped playing these songs once we had enough other songs to fill a live set.

  4. There any questions that you just *hate* to have someone ask?
Q: Is Chris Barnes ever coming back for a reunion?
    A: No.
Q: How did you guys get into Ace Ventura?
A: Jim Carrey recommended us to the people making the movie, and they got in touch with us. Jim was a very cool guy, and he was familiar with our music and said he enjoyed it.

Metalocalypse Showdown: Dethklok vs. Cannibal Corpse
Maybe Dethklok are the new buzz in metalland, but in spite of the hype, the guest appearances, the pr and the fact the singer shows a remarkable resemblance to Corpegrinder, they are no Cannibal Corpse.
» Check out the Metalocalypse Showdown

"September 5, 2006 - In response to our passionate readers' pleas, we here at IGN TV are trying to give a voice to the unappreciated metal band known as Dethklok. We have seen your emails and we understand your love for death metal... and let me say that I understand where you are coming from. So in an act to give the most violent band alive the justice it deserves, we have created the 'Metalocalypse Showdown'! This daily contest will pit the most ruthless hard metal gods against each other in an attempt to see how Dethklok stacks up against the best heavy metal bands of all time."

FUELBLOODED

The Inevitable
Every band goes through changes. After four years of working together, Fuelblooded have parted ways with singer Vital Welten. "We want to thank Vital for his contributions to Fuelblooded in the last four years. We wish him all the best in his future musical endeavors and in his personal life. We will announce our new singer shortly. In the meantime all shows will go ahead as planned. Horns up!"

Introducing the new singer
Fuelblooded are proud to announce the addition of singer Peter Brinkman (ex-Aura, ScenarioII, Zilver) to the ranks, after Vital Welten left the band earlier this week.

"We're very happy we have found a new singer this fast. We've known Peter for a long time from his former bands, and we knew he would be perfect for the job. Now that he took the bait, we can't wait to get this train rolling. This is gonna rock!"

Says Peter: "I'm very happy and proud to join Fuelblooded, a band that is working really hard to progress in the scene. I hope I can contribute to this and i'm looking forward to start singing, growling and screaming asap!"

Inflict the Inevitable
The band are currently writing songs for their sophomore album, which will be recorded in the spring of 2007. Still don't have the excellent Inflict the Inevitable? Go get it now!
» Listen to Dissector of Souls
» Listen to The Hangman's Burden

What is more brutal than Iced Earth, more melodic than Meshuggah and learned from Gothenborg-Sound without copying In Flames? Right. Fuelblooded. No wonder those newcomers from the Netherlands hit the bull´s eye with their debut-album: all bandmembers have gained many years experience in the Metal business. Starting off 1989 as Sacramental Sachem, they needed several Line-Up changes and a new bandname to create the right chemistry for this Metal masterpiece. Lyrics above the average, great cover artwork by Travis Smith and last but not least ten cool songs between Speed to mid-tempo to Doom you cannot have running „just in the background“ – enthusiastic headbanging guaranteed! Personal faves: The Hangman´s Burden, The Silence.

Stalker (9,5 / 10)

This is defnetly a devastating album with an excellent production and an high quality of sound, i'm really speechless. Fuelblooded's music is pretty much direct, melodic death/trash metal, a genre keeping together various and different metal flavours. “Inflict the inevitabile” is one of the top metal album of this year (2006), and Fuelblooded could get the chance to become definetly famous and well known around, trust me. Each track contains the usual/traditional "riding riffage trash metal", drums like blazes with death metal tempos (just look up the 9th song “Poisonous” and you will know what i'm talkin' about); vocals are always screamed growls alternated with melodic-rough refrains. Ten aggressive songs for a granitic poweful release; who likes death and trash metal will not be disappointed, run out and buy “Inflict the inevitabile”!!!

firealive (9 / 10)

Michiel aswers our Q&A for this edition:

  1. What have you been listening to lately?
Chimaira, Maiden, Pharaoh, Suffocation, Necrophobic. All kinds of stuff as u can see.

  2. What's the best martial arts movie of all time?
Any movie that stars Chuck Norris of course! O and the one that has both Chuck and Bruce Lee in it, forgot the name. The fight is legendary.

  3. Which would you rather read: GQ / Maxim / Playboy?
Probably GQ. Although Playboy does have an occasional high quality interview now and then, squeezed in between (fake) tits 'n asses. Nothing wrong with that.

  4. Describe your favorite pizza:
Round, with a nice crust and lots of tasty stuff on top of it. Preferably cheese, ham, onions and ground beef. No ansjovis please!

HYPOCRISY

Hypocrisy are also undergoing some changes. While preparing for the Machines at War tour with Fear Factory, guitarist Andreas Holma has decided to leave the band. Darkane's Klas Ideberg will be replacing him. You can still catch Andreas while he is helping out Soilwork on their UK trek this September.

We're getting ready to go to the USA and Canada soon and are looking forward to meeting all the people again and also to tour with fear factory again, the last time was 14 years ago.....swooooshhh ... time flies.

We will have a stand in guitarist for this tour "klas ideberg from darkane".

Andreas Holma decided to quit the band because:

"i'm not motivated anymore and want to concentrate on my own project and don't wanna tour anymore"

See you all out there!

Peter

HYPOCRISY PREACH THE ART OF WAR!
When your goal is a calculated sonic assault upon every major city in the U.S. and Canada, there are few stategists who can ensure victory in battle.

Armed with the reputation of their punishing live shows, an album that ranked in as one of the Top Albums of 2005, and the wisdom of a fifteen-year career, it's no surprise that HYPOCRISY's tried-and-true methodology for devastation has been drafted for the upcoming Machines At War tour with L.A.'s Fear Factory, New York's Suffocation, and Poland's Decapitated - set to launch in San Francisco this October 26th.

Hailing from Sweden and praised by Guitar One Magazine for "cramming maximum hurt into each track" on their latest release, Virus, The Machines At War North American tour is more significant to singer/songwriter/guitarist/producer Peter Tägtgren than most can imagine.

"Fear Factory are close to our hearts," reveals Tägtgren from his small village home. "Soul Of A New Machine was the influence for me to start my other project, Pain. What people don't realize is that the first tour HYPOCRISY ever did back in 1993 was with them and Cannibal Corpse in Europe. They've really done a lot for us to make this tour possible, so yeah, we're looking forward to giving everything we've got while we're up on stage. It doesn't matter if there are 50, 200, or 500 people in the audience. We're ready to give everything every night."

With four savage bands, forty fated shows, and thirty-nine doomed cities, ground zero will soon be arriving at your backdoor. "When doing battle," cited Sun-tzu centuries ago in his book The Art Of War, "seek a quick victory." The conquests that await HYPOCRISY in the mosh pits will be stained with just enough blood to ensure that their mission to annihilate is complete.

NEVERMORE

Oh Say, Can You Scream?
Indeed, even Nevermore are touring. The band are currently in Europe, supporting Disturbed. In between the official Disturbed dates, the band are playing a handful of headlining shows. Additionally, the band are filming their live endeavors for a soon to be released DVD. The disk will include all the videos, a Nevermore documentary and lots and lots of backstage and live footage. So when you are attending one of the DVD recording shows, scream as loud as you can!

Unfortunately, one of the DVD recording shows got cancelled due to Warrel falling ill. Since this happened very last-minute, there was no time to cancel the show and notify people.

Nevermore cancel DVD recording show
NEVERMORE vocalist Warrel Dane surprisingly suffered from an infection. On the morning of September 12th, 2006 (the day of the show) he felt sickish which did turn for the worse during the course of the day resulting in the necessity to see a doctor at a hospital in Dortmund, Germany. Until the afternoon everyone still hoped for him to be able to do the show and DVD live recordings as it was an extremely important one for the band itself apart from the fact that there was a camera team of 12 people and the show already being almost sold out during presale. No one trifles with such an important event!

Here is a statement from the band’s management and booking agency:
“Unfortunately we had been informed by the doctor in charge relatively late (around 17:30h) that Warrel was not able to do the show and as the doctor insisted on keeping Warrel at the hospital, we could not do anything else but make the artist’s health priority.

Together with band and the local venue (Zeche in Bochum), we agreed to re-do this show on October 11, 2006, Continental Concerts indicated this at the entrance of the venue as soon as we had made this decision.

Of course, all fans can return their tickets wherever they bought them. NEVERMORE and Continental Concerts are very sorry that we had to cancel this show. We hope and expect Warrel to be able to leave the hospital today to do the shows with Disturbed as well as further headliner shows and after that adequately recompense as many fans as possible at the end of the tour in Bochum on October 11, 2006.”

NEVERMORE’s drummer Van Williams on this very unfortunate event:
“Hello everyone, Van here, just wanted to let everyone know that we are very sorry we were unable to do the DVD show. Warrel had to go to the hospital in the morning of that day and doctors have kept him there due to him having pneumonia. We wanted nothing more and were all looking forward to this show with our fans. We realize many of you have travelled far to be with us and Warrel most of all wanted the show to happen. We will update you as soon as we can on his condition. Thanks for sticking with us and more news as soon as we have it. Cheers Van.”

ALBUM OF THE MONTH

In between all the news, the touring madness and the enlightening haikus, don't forget to check this month's Album of the Month. With a French featured photographer, it seemed only fitting to go for a French / Danish release. Listenable has always stood for solid quality with bands like ABORTED, INCANTATION, TEXTURES, SOILWORK and SCARVE and with this latest release it's no different.

Introducing Denmark's KOLDBORN. KOLDBORN play a solid style of catchy, groovy & extreme modern death metal (groovy death metal). The debut CD "First Enslavement" was released on Diehard Music / Century Media in 2001 and received overwhelming reviews for its musical diversity and brutal groove with that Scandinavian touch of melody. After releasing their The Devil Of All Deals EP in 2004 through Ancient Darkness Productions, the Danes underwent some line-up. Reborn, they recorded their second full length album, The Uncanny Valley, which displays more groove and less melody. The album contains 12 bad ass death metal tracks and features guest appearances by Aborted's Svencho and As We Fight's Jason.

Tracklist

  1. 28:06:42:12
  2. Lords Of Stupidity
  3. The Uncanny Valley
  4. A Destiny Predicted
  5. Below A Crushing Earth
  6. Hope Transformed Horizon
  7. Disconnected
  8. Last Message
  9. Repression
  10. Neural Bound
  11. 2:18

The Uncanny Valley will be released through Listenable Records on October 16, 2006. For more information and samples: www.myspace.com/koldborn

EXODUS

More touring? Indeed, after a short, much-needed and well-deserved break, Exodus are ready to tear up the road again for the last time in support of the fabulous Shovel Headed Kill Machine. The downtime was spent well, while Paul was helping out Testament, Rob took some personal time.

But September means back to business as usual. Exodus started with a handful of headlining shows...

To have the opportunity to tour with HATEBREED, NAPALM DEATH, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, DESPISED ICON, and FIRST BLOOD is just awesome. A HUGE thanks to Jamey Jasta and all from HATEBREED for hooking us up with the chance to crush some people who might not have ever seen us before. I fully plan on hurting somebody! Gary shares his impressions:

"Just wanted to give everyone a brief update. The [Monsters of Mayhem] tour has been off the hook amazing! I don't think I've ever had as much fun on a tour in my life. HATEBREED, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, NAPALM DEATH, FIRST BLOOD and DESPISED ICON have been a joy to tour with, and the HATEBREED gang have been way to cool to all of us. Much respect to all of them! Many more shows to go, and I'll try to give everybody updates more often.

Bringing Sexy Back
In case you are planning on going, bring your camera and corner the band for a shot or two to send in for our "Exodus & YOU" gallery (clever name huh?).

And once more, Exodus will be heading over to Europe one more time for the Shovel Headed Kill Machine tour. It has truly been a marathon trek. Go catch them when you get a chance. The band will be writing and recording most of next year (Lee slips an update) so it will be awhile before you get to see them again. Don't day I didn't warn you.

SEEMPIECES

Travis Smith aka Seempieces, if you are not familiar with the name you are certainly familiar with his work. Travis has been creating album covers and artwork for over a decade, illustrating the music of Psychotic Waltz, Testament, Iced Earth, Opeth, Nevermore and Katatonia amongst many, many others. We are currently working on getting his gallery stocked up and updated, so for everybody left wondering after visiting the website, the full gallery will be back soon. In the meantime, here is a little showcase of some of his recent work:

Strapping Young Lad

Katatonia

Katatonia

  1. Which would you rather read: GQ / Maxim / Playboy?
Not really into any of those, but if I had to choose from them, Maxim, I guess.

  2. What have you been listening to yourself lately?
Lots of Ignite. Danko Jones, Early Man, New Katatonia, Novembre, Solitude Aeturnus, King Diamond, Black Hawk Down soundtrack, Opeth, and more!

  3. What's the best martial arts movie of all time
I don't know. Haven't seen on in years. I used to have a lot of fun watching Enter The Dragon with my friend Danny. Does Kill Bill count?

  4. Describe your favorite pizza
Round. Big. Pepperoni and Cheese..and some black olives. Maybe some meatballs or sausage. No Anchovies, No Pineapples, No Mushrooms.
