We took notice of Jacob because of his personal approach and unique style and teamed up with him to bring you the first in our exclusive 'A day in the life of' -photomentaries, which offer an exclusive look behind the scenes. For our pilot session, we had him follow around Cannibal Corpse and the results are awesome, he really managed to capture the right vibe and atmosphere. Check out his site for a complete portfolio:

ARCH ENEMY

Let's start right away with the Kings & Queen of metal. Arch Enemy have just returned home after their very successful co-headlining US tour (with Chimaira, Nevermore, God Forbid and Hate Eternal) and a first ever Mexican tour. In the midst of all the touring mayhem, Michael found time to write a little update:

ARCH ENEMY Guitarist Checks In From U.S. Tour (14/04/2006)

"We are back in the U.S. once again on the Jägermeister Tour with CHIMAIRA, GOD FORBID (who recently replaced NEVERMORE) and HATE ETERNAL! The first show was in Denver — a typical 'first show' with all the stress that entails. I could definitely feel that we've been off the road for three months and I can still feel it in my neck today, but it was cool since the fans are amazing in the Denver area. It's good to see everyone; this is a cool tour with great bands. Hell, I'd pay money to see Jeff Loomis (NEVERMORE) play guitar — wow! All the bands are playing awesome shows, and I am so happy that we are on a solid heavy bill with all good music! There's also been some confusion and rumors about the April 26th New York show at The Avalon as the venue was closed down for a while. Anyway, the show is taking place as planned at The Avalon...so be there!

"Oh yeah, I will be doing an ESP guitars signing session with my fellow Arch Enemies Fredrik Akesson and Angela Gossow at New England Metal and Hardcore Fest on Saturday, April 29th from 4:00PM – 5:00PM. The New England Fest is always cool, and I believe this is the third time we will be playing it!

"In LA, I did something quite interesting, I was invited to a studio to do some voiceover work for an upcoming animated series called 'Deathklok' on Adult Swim that premieres August 6th. We filmed the session and they will either podcast them on the podcasts or compile them for the 'Dethklok' DVD special features. We got some cool footage of me talking about dumb guitar stuff with 'Dethklok' creator Brendon Small and later we talked about Werner Herzog movies but I don't know if that was filmed.

"So there it is, could be a new career opening for me, ha ha! Man, I am just happy to be back out on the road again on a killer tour — if you get the chance, come on out and check it out. Hopefully we will see you all soon."

After the US Jägermeister tour the band went straight to Mexico. Angela shares her impressions:

"THANK YOU SO MUCH to everybody who rocked the house with us on the US tour!!! We all had a blast and we have met a lot of wonderful people - you, our fans and friends in Metal! A special 'Hell yeah' goes out to Hate Eternal, Nevermore, God Forbid and those crazy lads from Chimaira. Drinking a whole bottle of hot sauce and then throwing up before the show - that cant be good for you Mark!

After getting off the tour bus New Jersey, we traveled to Mexico. Yes! We made it to Monterrey with ALL our gear; we had 22 pieces of excess luggage and an overbooked flight. Well, actually 2 overbooked flights. The level of stress was boiling up; Sharlee didn't get a seat and was on standby. I was 99% sure my luggage wouldn't show up (a nightmare come true for any woman) or at least my microphone. But all our gear made it over there (and all band members and crew!). Now we were ready for those margaritas they promised us. Let the killing begin.

And hell, yes, how it killed! We did a signing session in Monterrey, with hundreds of kids piling up in front of that store. I am sorry we couldn't sign all your stuff and take pictures, but we had a little bit of sound check to do. Daniel actually played on a golden sparkle drum kit that night and it took him a while to take it in and accept it, he-he... The show went well despite all the dodgy rental gear we had to use. The Iguana club was packed to the ceiling. Mexican metal fans…screaming, jumping, moshing. Wonderful.

The next morning it was a 7.30 am lobby call for us. You can't really do this with a metal band, especially not with me. I am NOT a morning type. And 7.30 am is in the middle of the night for me - considering the fact that I never, NEVER get up before 2pm in the afternoon on tour. The earliest time I feel human is 12 noon. But we had a flight to catch, playing that night in Mexico City. So I put on the blackest sunglasses I could find and made my way down to the lobby on all four (I cant walk that early either). I was relieved to see the guys being at least as grumpy as I was. I was not alone in my disgust for early mornings. But the late evening made up for this.

Mexico City. The venue ("Circo Volador") we played is HUGE. And we managed to pretty much pack it. The show - beyond comprehension. Imagine 2,300 kids jumping up and down simultaneously. Singing along. Screaming. Absolutely overwhelming. There is no better way to end a successful tour. It was our first time in Mexico and we will come back for more. We are also looking at options to play other South American countries. We didn't have the time to do a signing session in Mexico City. Travel, sound check and show are already a lot to handle in just one day. We will do this when we come back. And I hope its sooner than later.

© Daniel Erlandsson

A special thanx to the promoter Alejandro and his good people with EyeScream Concerts for taking care of us. It was all so smooth and well organized!

We will take a little, well-deserved break now before we enter the European festival season. We are playing plenty of them, check our tour dates for more info. See you on some muddy, green field in the middle of nowhere soon!

Heavy metal, Angela"

So what is next? A summer filled with festival appearances including the legendary Download festival at Donnington Park ("scream for me Donnington").

Speaking of the Download festival, you might have noticed the fabulous 'A Day in the Life of Cannibal Corpse' pictures (a bit further in this newsletter). For the next session, we will have Jacob follow around Arch Enemy during their Donnington D-Day. So how do the band prepare for one of the biggest festivals in metal history? All will be revealed soon.

»Check out the teaser...

ARCH ENEMY will release their first DVD, "Live Apocalypse", on August 8 via Century Media. The disc is "chock-full of phenomenal live footage, in-depth interviews and promotional video clips,"

Commented guitarist Michael Amott: "The 'Live Apocalypse' DVD is now finally complete. This shaped up to be an ultra cool two-disc affair, and I honestly couldn't be happier with it. The main show is from The Forum in London, UK (December '04), and we also have footage from Manchester, U.K. in December '05 (there'll be three songs included from that). There are tons of extras and special features, as there should be. The artwork was done by Niklas Sundin of Cabin Fever Media. Andy Sneap's audio mix (5.1 and stereo) is so heavy, it almost blew my speakers out! He really captured the live feel and power of the show; it's like you are right there in the audience. Brilliant! This DVD crushes some of my favourite metal DVDs from my own collection - and I have a sick collection. Once again, I am happy that we work with the best. They make us look and sound great."

So when can this treasure be yours? Here are the official release dates:

CANNIBAL CORPSE

Cannibal Corpse just returned home from a very successful European tour and are at home preparing for the upcoming Sounds of the Underground tour which will kick off on July 8, 2006 and features bands such as Machinehead, GWAR, As I Lay Dying and Trivium. Before the band embark on this monstertour, they will be shooting their next video for the track Death Walking Terror.

"Every one of our songs has some kind of violent or dark imagery in it, but we have to look for songs that are a little less graphic," he said. "We only have a couple of songs on each record where the lyrics aren't more or less R-rated for violence. We have to carefully choose what songs we do videos for, because otherwise it won't make it passed the censors. The song 'Murder Worship', I think all of us would have liked to have done a video for that. But there's no way, with the decapitated heads and all."

In the meantime, do I have a special treat for you. Ever wondered what it would be like to be on the road with Cannibal Corpse? Ever wanted to be a fly on the wall? We are proud to present you the photomentary 'A Day in the Life of Cannibal Corpse'. Photographer Jacob Dinesen caught up with the band in Copenhagen on their recent European tour and tried to capture the magic of the moments.

DARKANE

DARKANE have just returned from being on tour in Europe with Sadus and Glory Blister. Here's the official update from DARKANE guitarist, Christofer Malmström:

We had a great time and the audiences were fantastic! After returning home to our hometown Helsingborg, we played a show here and filmed it with 9 cameras for a possible DVD. We are gonna listen to/watch the results within the upcoming days and see if it´s worth working on (mixing the sound and editing the video). If it´s good we might release it later this year together with extra material from our career. We've always brought a video camera on tours and studio recordings, so it might be a lot of fun to watch."

Meanwhile in tour-related news:

Peter fills in on drums for Soilwork.
Peter Wildoer will be filling in for Dirk Verbeuren of Soilwork for at least 3 festivals this summer. Because of increased flight costs due to the World Cup of Soccer, Dirk is unable to make it back over to Europe for a few of the festival gigs from his current Los Angeles home. The first of the festivals Peter will be filling in for, will take place next weekend, May 28th at the Festimad Sur, www.festimad.es in Madrid, Spain. Dirk will, of course, do the majority of the festivals with Soilwork, however a list of the dates where Peter will be filling in will be posted shortly.

SOILWORK

Back home safe and sound from the Neckbreaker's Ball tour, Soilwork are getting ready for the European festival season where they will be playing a whopping total of 11 festivals, including the almighty Download Festival and the Wacken Open Air. Speed updates us:

Back from the dead.. Hi there!

It´s been ages.. anyways, had a good tour with Hypocrisy, Scar Symmetry and One man army in Europe.

We also did our first festival for this summer last weekend (yes, the summer has actually arrived in Sweden...) We played among the fjords in Norway (unfortunately it was a indoor festival), still a cool place though.. Something unexpected happened that day: I got sick as a dog when we arrived and performed on stage with 40 degrees of fever (which is how much in Fahrenheit?...hmm..no clue.. it´s hellish though!!). Back home from the festival i had to go straight to the hospital from the airport and they made me stay the night. They found a virus value of 130 in my blood (the value is normally below 8, in a normal condition...) I really don´t know what kind of virus that was, but i tell you it was pure hell.. I´m glad it wasn´t a normal tour (for example the one we did with Hypocrisy), then probably Peter Tägtgren would invite me on the bus for some straight-whiskey-northern-swedish-fever-cure and i´m sure i wouldn´t say no, since i enjoy drinking with that guy. The only thing is that i would probably be dead by now.. I´m on the heaviest possible medication right now and i´m starting to feel good enough to pick up the guitar and write some shit..

Talk soon..
Speed

And what about the guitarist situation?

Guitarist Situation
Let me also clarify some things about the guitarist situation: I know that some of you people have seen on some website (take a guess where...) that we have confirmed Daniel Antonsson as the new guitarist of Soilwork. It´s true that he´s been touring with us and we like him very much both as a human and as a player but we have NOT confirmed his spot in Soilwork. We have decided to go slow with this and really take our time before we make any decisions.. We´ll keep you updated on that story, nobody else..

Peace, Speed

© thewendy

Festival update / drummer situation
Just a little update on the festivals for this summer. Some of the festivals got confirmed pretty late and we had big trouble finding flight tickets for a reasonable price for Dirk. Therefore Peter Wildoer (Darkane) will fill in for Dirk on 3 shows (Festimad, Piteå and Malmö). We really appreciate Peter´s help and being able to step in with such short notice!

Anyways, we´ve never played this many festivals and it´s covering up most of Europe, so whatever you do, don´t miss us!!!

We´re really psyched about playing in Spain at the big Festimad festival next weekend. It´s been a while since we gave our spanish fans a fix, so it will be exciting for sure. It´s of course also a great honor to be one of the headliners together with Alice in Chains... can´t wait to see them live..

FUELBLOODED

Just back from a UK tour with fellow countrymen Detonation, Fuelblooded are ready to rock the Dutch shores some more. If you happen to be around next month, try to catch them at one of these following dates:

Textures, Outburst, Fuelblooded
Friday June 9, 2006
De Groene Engel, Oss

Decapitated, No Return, Fuelblooded
Sunday June 11, 2006
Goudvishal, Arnhem

I'm sure you've had just about enough of all the raving reviews, but here's one more from the boys at basementbar.com:

These Dutch guys know how to rock hard. Fuelblooded combines Nevermore's style of power-thrash with Mercenary's brand of melodic death metal to create a new and brutal monster for the metal community to fear. The riffing is very, very heavy and thrashy, but always retains a sense of melody.

The guitar work is just awesome on this album. The leads and solos are technical, melodic and memorable. The vocals are a mix of sandpaper gruffs, death metal growls and clean singing. It really fits well with the music. This album kicks your ass from the first note until the last. There is no slowing down and there is no filler.

This album was a very pleasant suprise and will definitely please fans of thrash and melodic death metal. These guys really need to get some exposure. This could be one of the most refreshing/promising metal debuts I have ever heard. Great job guys! This is a band to watch.

- basementbar

Fuelblooded just released their debut album Inflict the Inevitable through Copro Records. Recorded in Amsterdam, mixed in Denmark by Jacob Hansen and wrapped in the US by Travis Smith, Inflict the Inevitable is a release you can't afford to miss, especially if you like your thrash melodic and tight. I'm impressed if you made it all the way down here. Next month we have more on Exodus when they trek through Europe and hopefully the scope on the new Napalm Death (who are currently in the studio with only dial-up!).

Before you go, I'd like to mention Project Honeypot which is dedicated to stop S P A M.
